IRP Scheme Update

IRP Scheme Update

With the exception of the handful of people who contacted us in the few days before the Easter long weekend, all of our clients who were given 90-day Fail IRPs are back on the road without the Interlock requirement. Even clients who had the Interlock already installed have now had it removed. If you still have an Interlock due to a 90-day Fail IRP, call Kyla Lee and she will arrange for the requirement to be lifted.

We expect that very soon the Government will introduce their legislative fix to bring back the scheme. They are running out of time in this legislative session, so it must happen in the next few weeks. Our inside sources have given us a bit of the scoop on how the Government intends to spin the story and the general direction they intend to go with the legislation, but until the official word comes it is all merely speculation. As we have mentioned, the IRP scheme is a political no-win scenario for the BCLiberals.

The original decision rendered November 30, 2011, has been appealed by both sides on numerous points of law. We have no timeline for when the case will be heard at the Court of Appeal.

Our clients for whom we arranged a stay of the driving prohibition may need to extend the order that suspended the prohibition. We have about 6 weeks before we need to begin the process to extend the orders once again. The Government must do something long before then, so we are waiting to see what they propose before we start contacting clients. We will begin contacting everyone in May if the matter is still uncertain and we need to extend the orders.

If you are wondering about compensation and how you go about getting money in any class action suit, you may want to read our posts here and here so you have a better idea of the issues that may arise as this matter plays out.
